Power Troubles…
We have a pair of AIC storage servers. Given that these can take up to 48 drives each, they draw some significant power. As is too often the case, when we got the first one, we were in a crunch to get it online and migrating data on to it (we were extremely out of storage space at this point). The unit got plugged into a pair of existing UPS’s, and was humming along.
While I was away on vacation, a power outage hit. Turns out this server, even split as it was, was too much, and brought the UPS’s and other connected equipment down. Then today, one of the UPS’s just failed. Down went the server again, as I was replicating data from it to its mirrored unit. No data was lost, but suffice it to say, I am getting a dedicated UPS for it ASAP (actually, I now have the UPS, I need an electrician to do some work first).
Considering what happened to that ISP in the US (my previous post), this was a minor annoyance!
