Agfa Impax 6 – Getting Closer

Things are progressing slowly with our purchase of Agfa PACS Impax 6. This week a group of us are headed to Calgary to see Agfa 5.x and Promedicus RIS in action. It is too bad we could not arrange a visit to an Agfa 6 site, but hopefully we still gain valuable insight.

Usually, we like to beat our local competitors to the latest/greatest technologies and business practices. This whole Agfa PACS issue is one we may just concede an early defeat on purpose. There is just so much at stake, and it has been rather difficult finding the right questions to ask and then getting answers to those questions. Perhaps we will let our main competition get out of the gate first with Agfa, and then once they have worked out the kinks, follow right behind them, with much less stress on our shoulders.

Dalai has a recent post where he talks about Agfa trying to fix numerous issues his group has been having with 6.0. He has two sentences that just reinforce the idea that waiting may be our best option:

“Impax 6 was developed somewhat in a vacuum, that is, there was not adequate influence from users of other products, and there was not adequate testing in a production environment.”

“So, what do I say now to potential buyers? Frankly, I think you need to wait”

Now I feel a bit better letting the other guy jump first!
